Thanks for the write-up on your excellent modification!

The photos and text answered the questions I had that were not addressed in your CN post.

I've got the bearings for my own attempt at this. My newts (8 inch F/8.5) tube is a very lightweight powder coated aluminum with a rolled edge. I'm hoping stiffness will not be an issue.

I noticed on the OTA that you had added a fan and some ports to scrub the boundary layer from the front of the mirror. Our observatory has the same OTA and I was thinking about making this modification. Can you share how you cut the holes and mounted the fan?

Hi Ted- holes can be cut with no effort in fiberglass or metal tubes with a hand held drill and a simple hole cutting saw from any hardware store. These saws consist of cookie cutter like circular blades with teeth of several diameters and a blade holder. I have found that 3 2" holes just ahead of the primary disterbs the boundry layer even without a radial fan!. Use the rear fan to blow foreward on the primary for rapid cooling, but for observing I have another fan mounted on a tube cover with a hole cut in it that sucks air rearward. The fans are mounted with velcro (u could use the same fan and just unstick it from the rear cell and stick it to the tube cover). By the way- I use blue painters tape to cover the holes when not in use.

Thanks for the elegant and simple solution for rotating rings.

I have been to the VXB website and...too many bearings.

Could you pls refer me to the ones you used and also to
the source of the hollow (?) aluminum (?) tubing you used as
spacers.

Here is the link. It does not have good dimensions. I guessed at the correct size (but they were cheap anyway)
