The size in SCTs increase your over all focal length of the scope, thus giving you more power and the ability to pull in more light faster. In the simplest forms because I'm not an optics engineer, lets take the Orion nebula as a starting point. If you were to buy the LX90 the image you would visually see is a wider field of view but the image would be brighter looking through the 10" SCT. If the optical quality is the same in both scopes the photographic difference would be negligent, but you would probably have a slightly longer exposure time in the LX90, again due to it's smaller overall aperture.
I have a 5 inch refractor and a 12" SCT. Looking at Mars the image is much larger in my SCT than in my refractor but the image in my refractor is much sharper than the image in my SCT. That not a real good comparison. What I'm trying to say though is the under lying point is The LX90, while it might have a dimmer image you should be able to take the same quality of picture through it as you would get out of the 10 inch SCT. It just might require a longer exposure and a little higher powered eye piece to see the same size image that you would get with a lesser powered eye piece in the larger SCT.
So there you go, is that clear as mud now. I hope I helped a little. Charles
