GREAT NEWS for anyone REALLY hard pushed for cash !
I just went out to a local LIDL store , where both MEADE and BRESSER 10 x 50s are on special offer for £9.99
I knew about this deal coming up a week ago ( thanks to fellow CN member Patric -- from SWEDEN of all places ! )
I tried one each of the Meades and the Bressers in the store , doing as many basic checks as possible , and settled for the Bressers , with twist - up eyecups and one -piece rainguard v fold down rubber and individual ocular caps on the Meade .
The BRESSERS just LOOKED better somehow :-)
Close focus is very long for 10x binos -- about 8 metres on both I tried .
They are not FMC but do have BAK4 prisms and the pairs I have do have nice round exit - pupils .
They have built - in tripod adaptor and come with a nice wide neck strap and nice soft zipped canvas bag , objective lens caps which fit well , cleaning cloth , instruction leaflet ( saying made in GERMANY ! ? ) and come with a FIVE YEAR GUARANTEE .
In any case , LIDL will replace or refund if not satisfied.
CAN'T go wrong !
I bought 3 pairs , thinking Xmas present for son - in - law and a couple of pairs for a friend who asked me to check them out for him .
When I got them home -- the skies are the clearest I've seen for a long time .
I couldn't resist trying a couple of pairs of them out for quick hand - held star - gazing .
I feel slightly GOBSMACKED !!
PIN - POINT stars to around 80% from centre -- VERY NICE !
Got my Swift 10 x 50 Kestrels out , just in case something miraculous had happened to my eyesight overnight , and no contest -- the Bressers are MUCH sharper !!
Could be that 40mm TRUE aperture ( exit pupils ARE smaller than 5mm for sure )
Both pairs I tried were equally sharp and impressive .
I didn't want to get the third pair out of the box at first , thinking they were going to be a present .
They're NOT now -- not any more !
I'm DEFINITELY keeping a pair of these for myself :-)
IF anyone gets a pair as good as these -- they just HAVE to be THE BEST BANG FOR THE BUCK EVER for binocular astronomy .
If you get a chance -- BUY some !
The special offer ends tomorrow -- but the NORMAL retail price is only £15 anyway :-)
Regards , Kenny
