As Kenny brings up above-weight/portability is the third factor. I have three astronomical binoculars-an 8.5x44, 20x100, 25x150. The 8.5x44s (about 1#) get the most use as handholdable, extremely portable, grab and go. The 20x100s (13#)go to smaller starparties where setup and take down is done nightly. The 25x150s (42#)tend to stay at home in the observatory, or go to major starparties. This is no different than the person who has a 80mm refractor, 8" SCT, and 24" dob.
