I can cite many instances of point sources. Since extended objects are MORE affected by this I would extrapolate and say the same about extended objects, but I don't have any examples for you. I'm sorry, but it's not something I want to go back thru 5 years of notebooks and look for observations with 10x50, 10x60 and 10x70 and hope I can find same objects viewed on nights of same NELM.
the only real way to do this is compare those instruments on the same object under the same conditions. But that's not all. then you need to take the same set of instruments out again and view the same object under some other NELM conditions. And then again for another NELM. Frankly, this kind of stuff takes hours and hours. I'd rather at this point just extrapolate.
BTW, Crossen in his book "Binocular Astronomy" recommends the same thing and explains it for all the same reasons we raised here. His discussion is specific to extended objects.
