EdZ:
For Astronomy, which I assume is the primary focus on CloudyNights , I use the Nikon 12x50 SEs most of the time. For daytime use, I use Nikon 8x42 LXs. The LXs are great for widefield views of the night sky, but the 12x50s are much better for faint objects and small detail.
Also for daytime use (birding) the focus mechanism on the LX is better than any other binocular I've tried. You don't hear this mentioned too often, but it is certainly a strength of the LX line. Interestingly enough, it carries over to the Nikon spotting scope. I had the opportunity to compare Nikon's topline 80mm scope with the topline Swarovski and Pentax spotting scopes and the ergonomics of the Nikon 80 focus were substantially better than either of the other two. (The optics were better too, in my opinion.)
