For your consideration is a 12.5" Cave Astrola Dall-Kirkham/Cassegrain OTA - - that has some issues and missing items, which need to be mentioned first.

The front-end of the OTA has incurred some damage, but it does not appear to have comprised the integrity of the (Secondary Mirror) Spider.

The original Cave Astrola Secondary Mirror Holder, as well as the Secondary Mirror was missing and not included when I purchased the OTA. However, I separately purchased a brand-new Secondary Mirror Holder from AstroSystems, which I could sell to you for $50 (Retail Price at AstroSystems is $75). Also, as one of my backup plans for this project, I purchased and still have a 12.5" F/4 Dall Kirkham Set (which I believe is a Coulter brand). Consequently this set (that I am also planning on selling in the near future) could be a cheaper route to obtaining a Secondary Mirror - - as opposed to having the Secondary Mirror ground by an Optician.

The Focuser's Pinion Gear (that normally has two Rotary Controls), had one of the Rotary Controls broken off - - this can be found and replaced rather easily as this Pinion Control is 100% identical to the Pinion Gear Controls that are found on the Meade Research Grade Telescopes.

Aside from the OTA damage at the Secondary Mirror end, the OTA in general could use some TLC.

Some of the good qualities of this OTA are:

• Original Cave Mirror, with the cursive lettering that reads: "Cave Optical Co. #M772837 F/4 Elip. 50-1/2 F.L. June 30 1977". Because the Mirror is marked as being Eliptical (Elip.), and after reading the description in the Cave Astrola Catalog, the Eliptical Mirrors are Dall-Kirkham, while the Parabolic Primary Mirror's were used for the Conventional (Classic) Cassegrain.

• The Primary Mirror itself appears in very good condition, but is terribly dusty and will need to be cleaned. Personally, I do not believe it will need to be re-coated anytime in the near future, however this is only my personal assessment.

• The inside of the Backplate hold your basic 12.5" Cave Astrola Mirror Cell, which is extremely sturdy. If one wanted this Mirror Cell could be unscrewed and removed from the Backplate, to be used in a traditional Reflector Telescope manner.

• The outside of the Backplate is in very good condition, and has the original Cave Astrola Focuser as well as the Cave Telescope label.

• The OTA has the stationary portion of the Rotating Rings attached to the OTA, however these Rings are missing the actual Aluminum Rings that rotate (around the Stationary Rings) and would make it a complete operative-set. However I separately purchased a set of these Rings (as a backup plan) from a fellow CN member, and would be available to you if you wanted to purchase them separately.

While shipping is not out of the question, it would not be cheap.

Alternative, I could meet up within a 100-mile radius, for gas money relief/compensation.

Additional photos are available upon request.

Please Note that OTA is the only item that is for Sale, and the Meade Research Grade Mount (that's supporting the OTA and) shown in the images is not part of the Sale.
Thanks for looking!
