Like Sears and JC Penny, Montgomery Ward also had a small line of telescopes manufactured by Towa of Japan. But unlike the other two, ol' MW is a long gone retailer. Last time I ever went to a Ward store was in 1999.

Anyway, this little Towa refractor can perform right up there with the vintage Towa Meades, the small Vixen Celestrons and one of my favorites, the Manon 60s. Because this is an early '70s model, the focuser is not hard plastic, but aluminum and brass; something us classic refractor lovers LIKE to find. The cell and dew shield are also solid aluminum. The only plastic on this small dude are the focuser knobs and the oval side mountings for the yoke saddle.
Images given are typical of Towa, which is excellent. With .965" orthos or a hybrid diagonal with some decent plossls, you'll get crisp-to-the-edge views of the Moon, Jupiter, Saturn, M42, M8, M13, and other bright dsos. I used this also for land scanning the Selkirks on the north side of the valley and was happy with the low chromatic aberration; light purple on whitish or other high tint objects.

Conditions on this are great+ for cosmetics and excellent for the lens. The tube has some paint chips, but not many and they are small. The tube is not dented or deeply scratched. The aluminum dew shield does have a small "flat tire" spot, but only at the end rim. The focuser is very smooth yet holds firm without sloppy drooping. The characters on the model decal are perfect.
The angle adjustment arm is complete and works perfectly. This arm assembly is VERY common among all small Towa altazimuth refractors and it will fit many small yoke mount from Japan, Taiwan, and even small Chinese-sourced models of today.
The doublet BK-7 achromat assembly is very clean and free of fungus or mold issues. It does not have scratches all over the surface, no chips, and no clamshells. There are some micro hairline swirls, but not many. And none that will affect the images.

This DOES come with the original front dust cap. I may also have the dust plug for the focuser.

This also comes with the original base mounting bolts for MANY different model aluminum and plastic 24mm finder scope brackets.

A neat little classic that will perform for the collector.

Price doesn't include shipping. I will ship to anyone anywhere.
