I am the second owner of this great Orion SkyQuest XX14i IntelliScope Truss Tube Dobsonian telescope. It is in good condition and only slightly used. With a large 14" diameter mirror it gathers a lot of light for viewing faint deep space objects. Good for also viewing planets. The IntelliScope digital object locator allows you to push the telescope directly to more than 14,000 objects in it's database. In addition to the original Orion XX14i items I can also include a laser collimator, an Orion 2X Shorty Barlow lens, and zhumell urban sky filters (1.25" and 2"). Using the Barlow with the two eyepieces you can achieve 94X and 370X magnifications.

I am also including an equatorial mount platform which I designed and built. It is motorized with a Celestron #93514 Drive. The whole XX14i sits on top and the drive will allow the telescope to track the sky for up to about an hour. Even though it is designed for 37 degrees latitude, it can be shimmed for many other latitudes. The drive has a speed adjustment that allows for fine tuning the tracking. This makes for much better viewing of objects for many minutes before they drift out of view. However, it is not sufficiently accurate for long exposure photography.
It is best for the buyer to come here for pickup. This telescope is located near Richmond VA. But since I have a truck freight account I am also able to ship it throughout the Continental US 48 states, and even to some other locations offshore. Example freight rates from Richmond: Philadelphia PA $220, Miami FL $300, San Diego CA $490.

I am selling because I live in an urban setting with too much light to fully use the capabilities of this scope. And due to its size and weight (and a recent shoulder injury) I would like to get something a little lighter. That way I can more easily transport it to dark locations for better viewing.

Under the right seeing conditions here is what another user of the Orion XX14i IntelliScope reports viewing:
  • Distibuted objects down to mag 13.5 and stars down to 14.5 mag
  • Pluto at mag 14.1
  • tiny 12th and 13th mag planetary nebula
  • Very late at night when seeing had improved to way above average this scope produced an image of Saturn that was crystal clear, including banding on the surface, 5 moons (including enceladus) and the crepe ring. Took the magnification to 330x with no degradation of the image.
  • Jupiter with the Great red spot showing fantastic detail at high magnification including a thin arc of white gas curling around part of the spot and trailing away into the south equatorial band.
