This meteorite fell to earth in northern Mexico in 1969, and I bought it thirty years ago from a campesino who lives in Allende and who found it there. It contains the oldest material in the solar system and tells us that the shock from the explosion of a nearby star may have triggered the formation of the sun and planets. This material is in the form of small white inclusions that formed 4,560,000 years ago. A few million years later small droplets called chondrules melted and then solidified.

This nearly spherical piece weighs 355 grams (12.5 oz). Dimensions are 70 x 55 x 55 mm. It is weathered. Fusion crust covers about a quarter of the surface. Chondrules are visible where broken, including one 3 mm in diameter that looks like it wants to pop out. It would look great if sliced (and you could get quite a few slices from it). Allende meteorites are offered at between $10 and $30 a gram; this is only $7/gram. Add 3% for PayPal.
