Carl Zeiss Jena Amici 4x eyepiece turret -- PART I
complete with 0.965" and 1.25" eyepiece holders, and
a set of one ATC M44 plus three CZJ 0.965" orthoscopic eyepieces.
(See add PART II for details of Eyepieces, prices and shipping)
Here’s a rare chance to get a complete high quality CZJ visual back-end for your Zeiss refractor (or other high-quality telescope). The sale includes a CZJ Amici turret, with sets of 0.965” plus 1.25” eyepiece holders and optionally one ATC Kellner M44 plus three CZJ 0.965" orthoscopic epieces for the turret.
The CZJ turret has a Zeiss Amici diagonal prism specifically manufactured for high magnification astronomical use, with the roof edge cut precisely to the Zeiss norm (rt/-2 arc sec), fully multi-coated and mounted in a solid metal housing.
On the telescope side the turret has one M44x1 outer thread for direct connection to Zeiss refractors (Telementor/AS/APQ); This thread is easily converted to a T2 connection using for instance a Baader adapter (https://www.teleskop...ccessories.html).
The Turret has 4 ports for eyepieces / eyepiece holders:
- one large versatile M44x1 inner threaded port for:
- large male-threaded M44 EP like the CZJ H-40mm, O-40mm or the ATC K-40mm
- a CZJ M44/0.965” EP adapter for small classic eyepieces in the large port
- a Baader M44/T2 adapter (https://www.teleskop...fuer-ZEISS.html to allow
- a T2/1.25” EP holder (https://www.teleskop...T2-to-1-25-.htm) or
- a T2/2” EP holder (https://www.teleskop...scope-side.html)
- three smaller ports for 0.965” EP holders (native) or 1.25” EP holders (custom made).
I have owned several Zeiss Amici turrets as well as several Baader Amici diagonals; There is a variation in the precision figuring of the roof prism in both types, but I’ve found the very best of the Zeiss prisms to be essentially perfect with totally invisible roof, and a notch better than the best Baader ones. I've also come across some not so good Zeiss turret prisms though, considerably worse than the best Baader Amici prisms.
The Amici roof in this diagonal is invisible at inspection, and also so in observation of all astronomical objects (Sun Moon, DSO) except high magnification planetary studies. There is a tiny irregularity in the Zeiss Schott glass of the prism (shown by the arrow in an attached picture) but this is completely insignificant for the optical performance of the prism (this kind of small artifact is not uncommon if you look closely at old glass). What counts here is the perfection of the roof.
A CZJ turret with a near perfect roof sells for over 500 Euro in Germany today; My price for this turret is: 470 US$.
This price includes the original CZJ M44/0.965” EP adapter plus the set of three 0.965” EP holders.
For this sale I also offer a set of 3 precisely custom-made high quality 1.25” adapters for the turret for a price of: 90 US$
