I’m selling my excellent Starmaster 18” f4.2. I bought this scope three years ago and have enjoyed it immensely since then. I have the opportunity to buy a larger (much more expensive) scope and need the money to fund that purchase.
This 1998 18" Starmaster with a Stabilite cellular mirror (f/4.2) was figured by John Hall of Pegasus Optical (John charged an extra $2000 for the Stabilite option). The front part of this cellular mirror design is 1/2" thick for rapid cooling. The mirror and cell weighs 40 lbs! This 1998 telescope was totally refurbished and upgraded in September, 2010 by Bob Schilling and Rick Singmaster with a newer design upper cage assembly, modified truss poles for convenient visual and video astronomy use, new gearbox/drive motors, new buss panel connectors, new altitude bearings, new wiring, new tangent arms, new SkyCommander XP4 with the SkyTracker GoTo. A new shroud is included along with an aluminized day cover.

The primary mirror is in excellent condition. The telescope includes a Telrad and 2 speed Feathertouch focuser and collimation tool. The Secondary mirror has a heater. Included is a 12V gel cell battery that powers the XP-4 and the Sky Tracker GoTo. The Starmaster mirror and cell storage and transportation box is included and carries the mirror without removal from the cell. All original documentation for the Starmaster and SkyCommander XP-4 is included.
The SkyTracker hand control unit is mounted near the Feathertouch focuser on Velcro and has stick-on pads which aid control of the directional buttons. The SkyTracker is dead on for pointing and tracks objects very accurately for long term viewing. A muffin fan aids the already fast cooldown of the Stabilite mirror.

Functionally, I believe this telescope is "better than new" compared to the 1998 telescope.
I live in the Houston Texas area and will not ship but I would be willing to drive 300 to 400 miles to meet a buyer. I've got additional pictures and will take additional pictures if requested.

I'm asking $4700 or best reasonable offer.
