I bought the scope new directly from Peter Ceravolo in the mid-1990s and am its sole owner. Clear aperture 145mm, diagonal 25.4 mm, and optical tube 7” dia. When seeing conditions permit, this scope splits Antares and its close, faint companion at 350x. I have also split Zeta Bootis when it was 0.9”. Saturn is a marvel at 250x. Peter used to say its visual performance fell between a 5” apo refractor and a 6” apo refractor, and that has been my experience at star parties. Due to the optical design involving spherical figuring, the scope is permanently collimated. I’ve never worried about cool-down, either; the scope has always seemed ready to go. I absolutely use a dew heater on the corrector lens, even with a dew hood. I no longer have the hood that Peter originally supplied, so that’s not included; I made my own incorporating a Kendrick dew strip (not included). The scope itself is 12 pounds, but with the included rotating rings by Parallax Instruments, about 16 pounds. I rode it on an A-P400 head (not included), which carried it rock-solid. The scope has always been stored inside and is very clean. The coatings are in excellent condition. In Picture 7, note some scratches. I believe they came from a wood tripod I used. The “blemish” in Picture 5 is just the gummy of a label. The focuser is helical and works well for “snapping” stars into focus with no ambiguity, and adapters are included for 2” and 1 1/4” eyepieces. Note: the rotating rings that come with this scope are an important addition, permitting convenient eyepiece angle at any position of the scope on an equatorial mount. There is also a TelRad base on the optical tube, but a TelRad is not included. This scope has a following in the amateur astronomy community and it’s easy to understand why: Peter is a perfectionist with his optics, and this scope a size that permits carry-out-the-door portability. Feel free to contact me regarding additional observing notes, and feel free to consult discussions on Cloudy Nights. I can likely ship the scope, but shipping and any PayPal fees are extra. If I ship, I will ship the mirror-in-its-cell separately. Let me know if you have any questions.
