Solar Sequence Jan. 27-Feb. 9, 2007

This is a two week sequence following sunspots as they appear to move across the solar disk demonstrating the rotation of the Sun. Galileo first made observations like this in 1611 using a telescope and eyepiece projection. For this set of sketches, I used a pair of binoculars about the same objective size as Galileo's telescope but used direct observation using safe solar filters (unavailable to Galileo).
