M51 visual In 10 inch reflector

M51 visual In 10 inch reflector

Here's my visual impression of M51 just last night, March 7, 2021, viewing through a Meade LX-50 10" SCT with a Celestron 32mm E-Lux eyepiece. Object was near meridian around midnight, under moderate bright (light polluted) skies, two miles from downtown Charlottesville Virginia USA. Perfectly clear skies, pretty good transparency, no moon. I made this visual impression image in photoshop, modifying a photo of the galaxy that I found online. I tried very hard to find M101 using both star-hopping and setting circles (I'm pretty good at both), but was unable to perceive it - I wrote that off to the low surface brightness. Need to get to darker skies.
