Meade LX850 Pegasus Astro Focuser

Meade LX850 Pegasus Astro Focuser

I've been working recently on turning my Meade 10" LX850 (F/8) into a little more user friendly for the purposes of astrophotography. I've been really happy with the built in "crayford" mirror focuser, but sometimes I need to focus a little too often in one night. So I thought I'd try an electric focuser. The project turned out to be fairly simple, though I will admit I haven't tested it out under the stars yet (just on the bench), so there might be some negative learning when I do.
First, I started out with the Pegasus Astro FocusCube 2 (Universal). The default bracket was almost the perfect length, so all I had to do was fabricate a collar to bolt to. This was simplified by the three machined flats on the telescope end of the focuser. I printed the collar in two halves, bolted them together with 4 M2.5 screws, and 3D printed threads into the lower half for one of the M6 screws that came with the FocusCube. The FocusCube even came with a shaft collar that fits the stock focuser. It is attached to the fine focus knob which isn't ideal, but so far it seems to have plenty of movement and should have no trouble focusing during a night. We'll see how the first light goes!
