final version (for now!) of this, done in PMM in PI
six panels, ranging from 129 minutes to 233 minutes each--probably part of the problem!
each panel processed with NSG then PMM then entire mosaic DBE
PCC, EZDenoise, soft ArcsinhaStretch, create star mask and starless image for further steps
HT with star mask; MMT and LHE with lum(starless) mask; further adjustments contrast and saturation with same mask to work on nebula
thought I had lost detail in brighter areas; tried HDRMT and thought it helped
EZstarreduction, final tweaks to saturation and overall brightness/contrast
