NGC 660
Polar Ring Galaxy - Pisces
100 minute EAA view
November 2022 EAA Challenge
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NGC_660

Scope: 8" SCT at F/4.23 (night owl reducer)
Camera: asi2600mc pro - 10s subs, gain 450, -10C, background and flat corrected

I had hoped for better.
The view did not really improve from 25 minutes to 100 minutes of viewing (went off to do other things after the first 25 minutes!). This may be a case where I am getting adc quantization errors where the signal variations between the background and faint circular wings of the galaxy are not differentiated. The solution is to up the gain and/or increase the length of the stacked subs. The problem is this is also a teenie object and resolution matters. Without guiding I can maybe go up from 10 to 12.5 second subs before tracking errors become a problem. I may try this tonight to see if it makes a difference - I can cut the quantization error by 2 an see if this helps a bit. The next step is to introduce (gasp) guiding to get 30-40 second subs.
