The Condor Galaxy, or NGC 6872, is a large barred spiral galaxy located 212 million light-years away in the southern constellation Pavo (the Peacock). It stretches over 522,000 light-years across – more than five times the size of the Milky Way – and is one of the largest known spiral galaxies. The galaxy's unusual size and appearance stem from interaction with a much smaller disk galaxy named IC 4970, which has only about one-fifth the mass of NGC 6872.
