NGC 602 is a young, bright open cluster of stars located in the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC) (a satellite galaxy to the Milky Way), embedded in a nebula known as N90. It formed when a large part of the gas cloud collapsed under gravity and became very dense. The fierce radiation now being produced by these hot, young stars is sculpting the inner rim of the gaseous nebula.
