Hello! It seems that you had a high humidity level (87%). Perhaps the blurring effect is due to fogging on the lenses?

I agree, the high humidity may have caused lens fogging.  It was certainly humid enough.  Although, I always thought (and I may be completely wrong) that smoke haze tends to partly block the blue wavelengths.  Maybe it was a mixture of smoke haze and lens fogging?  Anyway, a good excuse to retarget the Pleiades to see what the colour is next time.

    That's the good mindset !

Just an update to these comments in case any else was getting similar results.  I am now reasonably sure that this capture was affected by the light from a nearby infrared security camera.  Even thought the property we were staying at was dark location, it was surrounded with security camera's.  For this particular image, the Pleiades was rising above the house's roof line, with the telescope under the direct glare of the security camera.  From what I can gather, the sensor in this camera is a Sony IMX 676 (colour) that is principally sold for security cameras.  As such, it does capture infrared light (like what is being spilt from the IR lights on a security camera).

A lesson to file away for next time.
