Doug with his CG-14

Doug with his CG-14

Doug, Love your scope! How about talking some time about the CGE Mount. I'm really interested to know what it's error tracking rate is and how it compares to the AP's, Losmandy and TAK Mounts.
Great pic of the 14's size
Hey guys, thanks for the nice comments on my CG14. About the CGE mount; I’m not that familiar with it but have seen one up close at High Point Scientific. In my opinion I would go with the G11 mount over the CGE. You can toss a Volkswagen Beetle up on the G11 and it will still be standing. When it comes to the tracking rate I only do visual observing with this scope and visually it’s fine. Mike Peoples owner of High Point Scientific is anxious to do some CCD work through my scope and when he does I’ll report back to you on the results. Thanks again……..Doug
Wow! If you hadn't told us it's a 14" scope, I would have thought you're only 3ft tall! How much does your setup weights? (It looks like a real hernia-hazard ;)).
Hansvi, I love your comment, but no I'm not 3ft tall but 6'1" The OTA weighs in at 39lbs along with 60+lbs of counter weights. Total weight I'm not sure of but it is a hernia-hazard....Doug
Now THAT's a heavy telescope :). I only recently bought my first 'scope (a 5" sky-watcher newtonian). I'm learning all I need without hurting my wallet too much, but I'm afraid I might end up just like you ;). I just hope it will take many years, although that picture makes me drool a bit.. (a clear sign I'm affected by the virus, no? ;) ) Have a lot of fun with your great telescope!
ladder required i take it.. or can you tailgate the lawn chair?
That is an impressive scope! Bet the views are stupendous!!
