Celestron C5 Serial Number #49
I just acquired one of the first C5 every built! Serial Number #49
Plus it is in great optical, mechanical, and electrical shape!
Only the OTA orange paint showing a little age (fork and base paint holding up well)
Scope has been pack away for at least 30 years (previous owner from El Monte CA, no longer with us)
I did clean the scope optics (distilled water only) due to the long term foam outgassing "fogging" from enclosed case.
During this process, I was able to obtain key production dates. ; )
Corrector Plate: 70 (1970)
Mirror: 70 (1970)
Motors: 9-71 (Sept 71)
My guess, Scope ready for sale by X-Mas 1971.
Scope is tri-colour (simple work of art !!!)
Motors are brass and finder is black.
I only added 110v power cable with jones connector. end caps for finder, and hand tightening mounting bolts for non common wedge.
No plan to mess this scope up with repaint!!!
It is history, let it age normal fashion, but a bath every 30 years should be OK!
