California Nebula (NGC 1499)

This image is a full 35mm frame and was one of the first prime-focus, deep-sky photos I ever took on my very first night of doing so. Judging by what I see looking visually at the slide I believe this image could show considerably more detail with better image processing. (The black point here is also set too low, which doesn't help.) I also have other exposures of this target that I could potentially stack to reduce the noise (mostly film grain).

_Imager: Olympus OM-1, Elite Chrome 200 35mm slide film pushed one stop, scanned at 4,032 x 2,688 (10.8 MP). _Scope: Meade MTS-SN6 6-inch f/5 Schmidt-Newtonian. _Exposure: Single, 30 minutes. _Guider: Manually guided with Lumicon 2-inch Newtonian Easy-Guider. _Date: August 7, 2002. _Location: Near Ayton, Ontario, Canada.
