Mosaic of North America Nebula (NGC 7000) and Pelican Nebula (IC 5070)

Just for fun I took three 35mm slide film exposures I had happened to shoot of the same object(s) with the same or similar equipment but on different nights (different years, in fact!) and fed them into Microsoft's Image Composite Editor (ICE). Amazingly the program was able to align them and even adjusted contrast and brightness for a perfect match across the seams. (I got them reasonably close to start.) Obviously, if I had been planning such a mosaic I would have arranged the frames differently and the result would not look so odd! _Imager: Olympus OM-1, Elite Chrome 200 35mm slide film pushed one stop, scanned at 4,032 x 2,688 (10.8 MP). _Scopes: Meade MTS-SN6 and LXD55 6-inch f/5 Schmidt-Newtonians _Exposures: three, each 30 minutes. _Guiders: Manually guided with Lumicon 2-inch Newtonian Easy-Guider or 80mm f/5 guidescope. _Dates: Sept 6, 2002; Sept 8, 2002; Sept 4, 2005 _Location: 14km north of Mount Forest, Ontario, Canada.
