Here is my version:
I stayed away from treated lumber, that stuff corroded the youknowhat out of my table saw and other tools, so I was worried it would do the same to my mount/ scope/ and associated electronics. here are a few shots from my "Redneck Berlebach", I built from untreated pine. It is lightweight and compact enough that I can move it somewhere lese on pour property, and/or throw it in the back of my SUV.
As sailor i know about the beauty and simplicity of Teak Oil, and I typically use the cheapest stuff I can get in my favorite Big Box hardware store. I anticipate my tripod will need a simple wipe down and subsequent oil reapplication every 3-4 months or so...
that thing is quite functional, and eliminates vibration of a quite hefty thump with my fist within 3 seconds... (@2000mm focal length)...
