Mars

Mars

Taken from my driveway with XT4.5" Dob, 7mm UO classic ortho, around 12:30am, Sept 2 '03. Single image, no stacking. curves usm resizing. Cut Off, Louisiana

Thanks for the comment, and I did not use any filters. What camera settings are you using? One thing, my Canon G3 has the LCD which I can use to help focus-so that helps. I use it afocally-handheld next to the ep. (I really need the Scopetronix adapter). If your camera has manual exposure control, you may want to open up the aperture all the way and start bracketing to faster shutter speeds, not to get the "ball of light" Did you shoot last year when Mars was close? Another thing, I do not focus at infinity, usually somewhere between .5 meters and 1.5 or 2 meters, depending on the ep used. That University Optics ep is known for sharpness, and the seeing was very steady & clear, so that helped. I did a little Photoshop 5 LE-usm, perhaps some curves, & resizing. I'll post my first sighting of Jupiter's GRS-which happened April Fool's this year-about 7:10pm-it is not as sharp. But it is much farther away, so that might have something to do with it...the seeing got a bit steadier as the time went by. Send me an email off thread...thanks again, Kerry
    great mars shot!
    thanks for looking, Nyx.
That 7mm Ortho is the sharpest eyepiece in my box. Great detail for a 4.5! Nice work! Mark
    Very Nice!
Thanks, I will say Orion's XT4.5 is a fine little telescope, it is my 1st and a keeper. Ditto on UO sharpness and clarity. I recently acquired Takahashi 7.5 and the 7 ortho for my .965 C60 Vixen made refractor. Love these also.
