Veil Nebula complex with vintage lens and dual-band filter

Veil Nebula complex with vintage lens and dual-band filter

My attempt to put lipstick on a pig. 9 hours of RGB data with my canon 600D and vintage super takumar SMC 135mm f/3.5. The chromatic aberration in this lens made it a painful experience. I reshot the nebula with a dual band filter to isolate the OIII and Ha data, but unfortunately these two wavelengths focused at different points. So this is an additional 10 hours of focused OIII and about 2 hours of Ha, tossing the defocused wavelength. The OIII data had the smallest stars, so it was used as a luminance mask for the stars in the RRB data. The stars were removed with starnet++, and the starless RGB image was used for the background. Then a luminance mask was used to blend the Ha and OIII data, and the RGB reduced stars were added back.

Processed in APP, GIMP, and starnet++.
