Looks like it's in great shape and price is right. Unfortunately, I have too many things going on right now so I can't do it. I hope somebody out there can...

Something isn't right here. Look at the bottom picture. As best I can tell, the entire telescope is identical to my Tasco 10TE except for the color of the dew shield. Take special note of the mount for the finder scope. Now look at the top picture...the mount for the finder is completely different. I see one tube-type holder with 3 set screws in one and two brackets with six screws in the other.

Or am I completely missing something here?

Yeah, now that were on it, I just found something else. The closeup of the focuser shows what appear to be black knobs, the bottom right photo shows silver focus knobs.

Good catch Keith. There is a lot that doesn't add up here. One thing is for sure, the lister took the photos from the "spacealberta" site, which I have been to before. I posted this same link a while back in reference to the Towa model 339 mount that I owned.

I'm not a member of Craigslist and I am not familiar with it, so is somebody gonna send them an alert?

Regards and clear skies,

Well, I just sent an email to Craigslist including both the Spokane ad and the SpaceAlberta site.

I just emailed him and said I was interested in his scope, but was curious why the photographs were identical to those found on a Canadian website, yet according to the ad, the scope was located in Spokane. I included the SpaceAlberta link too (hee-hee!).

Low price, suck in alot of buyers...the money would add up quick. I'm sure to all local callers it would 'already have been sold'.

Well, there is one more possibility here...he in fact HAS a Towa #339, but plagarized the text and photographs from the SpeceAlberta website because he didn't know how to describe the telescope or have access to a digital camera (yeah right). If so, he should have referenced his source.

I still wouldn't trust it.

Good catch. Sure wish there was an option on Craigslist to post a question on an add. It would make it much easier to expose to all quicker...

Looks like the person took the bottom pic out of the ad..

I received a reply from the seller, with his phone numbers, My guess is that he is a stand -up guy. Here is his reply:

You are correct. I was using one photo as an example, but I now see thatthe finder scopes are different. I will take the incorrect photo down and
repost a better view of the finder scope. Thanks for pointing this out.

I received the same reply with phone numbers. The problem is ALL of his photos AND the text were directly taken from SpaceAlberta. If he comes up with his own photos, I'll apologise...but I'm not holding my breath.

I got the same response Bear. He said he prefers to sell it locally and have it picked up but if not sold in 2 weeks he would contact me.

I live very close to this guy. Since I know virtually nothing about these scopes, is this something worth having? I doubt very much that I would use it unless for Solar projection or to let kids use at local events. What is it worth?

Bill,

IMHO, it's worth $45 to $60, especially if the tripod, objective and head are are in good order. Without freight, I think its "better than ok" deal.

I'd personaly buy the tripod if the legs are in good shape, and the head for parts. If the optics are good are acceptable. it would make a nice retro style guidesscope to build upon.

Bear,

Did the ad change? I'm still seeing the original images. It sounds like you are describing a pretty hacked-up piece of equipment.

I wonder if this guy knows the meaning of 'honesty' considering he plagiarized my website, I should charge him a commision when he sells the scope.

Hi Denis,

Your website popped up first when I did a search for pictures of Towa #339s. Obviously it must have done so for this particular seller as well.

Keith (BTW, did you get to read the book yet?)

dfell,

Yea, using photo's from your site is more than bad judgement or negligence. Perhaps an apology would be appropriate.

I'm still seeing the old ad, even when I bypass the link here and go directly to the craigslist page. Does he have actual pictures of his scope up?

Keith
