Good luck with this one, Jerry. I see the need for a bigger mount in your future.. ;)

Luke, I can't believe your getting rid of your new TEC160 already... :hmmmm:

Well, Meade appears to have gone against their better judgement and shipped me a scope. I've got a UPS ground number and it should be here end of next week. Can we say full Moon?

Good point David. I'm in the observatory right now trying to get an M57. Had a flu virus the last two days so I've been in bed sleeping and resting. But tonight the sky cleared and the flu can wait until tomorrow night. A pox on that virus anyway. Looks like the full Moon will also arrive with the UPS truck.

Oh well, on another note. I notice a TEC 160 just went up on AM. Wonder if it would be over the edge piggybacking a TEC 160 on a Tak 152? Be a good shootout though.

It's not an easy choice. But it is a BIG scope. I don't have an Ob, so I need to set up and tear down all the time. It takes up a lot of room in the back of my SUV.

Oh man ... I think I'd cry.

Just out of interest, what did the outer box look like?

The outer box didn't show immediate signs of damage. Upon closer inspection you can see where a crease was in the middle of the box at the same location as the damage. Talk to opt corp and they are getting right on it. I would'nt have notice any damage if I had'nt check the bottom to see how my losmandy dovetail would fit. Yesterday I was on cloud nine now I'am some where below sea level. Well now I have the additional time to work on my pier. :foreheadslap:

that stinks :(

have you ever seen the tv commercial for the little tool that magically repairs car dents? try your local auto parts store.

you should still send it back but this way, you might get some use out of it and test the optics if it takes a week or so to arrange a return.

Oh, man. That is depressing. :( That had to take quiet a whack to do that. My 12" R was double boxed and had about 3" of foam around it. If yours was the same way, something nasty big had to be deposited on the box. Just not fair!!

Real sorry about that experience. That is so like Meade mixing up the shipments. I'll forward yours as soon as it arrives here. Should be in by the middle of the week. Just send mine on over to me.

I'll check to see if it has a chipped mirror. If it does than I know it's yours. I will be mounting this on a tak EM-400. I would be interested in how your NJP handles this scope. At least I don't have to hurry up to complete my pier now. Meade shipped this UPS ground. I would like to know where the pot hole was between Calif and Hawaii.

Mines coming UPS ground too. That is funny about the port hole. Looks like yours went out after mine and got there before. Mine is likely coming by boat.

You know I was going to include the comment "konadan got Jerry's scope" in my earlier post but I thought the gallows humor would be a bit much.
It appears that I've overestimated my audience. :stooges:

On a serious note ... can you imagine what it took to damage the scope like that? Something with a very sharp edge (corner?) was driven very hard into the middle of that box. What concerns me even more is the visual lack of damage externally, almost as if someone did a little cosmetic work to straighten the cardboard. :ohgeeze:

Actually anything that makes me laugh right now is appreciated. I know opt will make everything right . It,s just the hassle of returning the scope. Here's a picture of the bottom of the box.

But of course, I would only check it out and .... and .... oh my..... they chipped the mirror too when they dented the tube.
