The series of solar sketches were great and not only represented the details seen visually nicely, but I also appreciate the amount of work and talent required to create them.

All of the images were nice, but to me there is more depth and content to explore in the nebula images as opposed to the Jupiter and M13 images. All three were much better than anything I could produce right now, but I chose PhilG's image solely because I haven't seen an image of the Cresent Nebula before, and it has a more unique structure than the other two.

Great work by all six of the finalists. :waytogo:

I also chose PhilG's NGC6888. That one was just too excellent, amongst a crowded field of great efforts. I also like the Aussie Phil22's nebula. Too bad he didn't tell us what it is. I also liked Mike Fubl's Lagoon Nebula. These really stand out, visually, but Jupiter's detail was also fantastic. M13's beauty & Erika's sketches show great artistry, but in the end, PhilG's breathtaking beauty was my choice. Great work, everyone.

Entries by Erika and PhilG are outstanding indeed. I've never seen a sketch of solar prominences before.

Amazing entries from everyone! Thanks to everyone of you for the breathtaking look into the cosmos you bring to hacks like myself. I'm throwing in with seperate contests for sketching and photography. Great work Erika Rix.

Once again, I thought all were excellent!

In the end, however, I voted for mnaf...just an amazing image of a globular using prime focus!!

All images are just o-u-t-s-t-a-n-d-i-n-g ! But I'll have to go with Rumples Riot for the reason that his picture of Jupiter, is one of the finest I've seen taken by an amateur telescope. :goodjob:

PhilG: SHOKED!!! COOL!!! VERY nice image!

PhilG`s image looks almost 3D...and the crescent nebula looks/comes alive with color...almost literally...the thing looks like some creature from a modern sci-fi movie...with all the up-to-date special effects...

seen the nebula before...but never quite like that... :) ...WHAT A SHOT!!!... :)

This is my first time here and I thought it would be separate photos and sketches. I think they should be separate too. It is like apples and oranges. I like both--but not together. ;)
Anyway I voted for one but I won't say which because they are all spectacular.

Man, you don't make it easy.

I loved Erika's sketches, but in the end I opted for Phil, for a newbie imager he managed to produce an excellent image.

Can't imagine the time spent on the sketch. You can't sleep while your sketching as you can while imaging! I vote for the sketch. Fantastic sketch!

I chose PhilG image as ive never even seen that NGC! Not even sure if you can see it from my neck of the woods!(Ireland). They were all brilliant but i also think the images and sketches should be seperate aswell!

I understand the concept of having the contests separate...but its nice to mix and match too !!! More variety !!! with so much imaging now a days sometimes they all look the same. I voted for ER...but that image of Jupes is fantatsic as
well as the others !!!! Thanks Everyone

You forgot to put in a lever for "All of the Above." :silly:

Again, it was a very tough choice to make. The interesting thing again are the photos taken using newtonian reflectors. A generation ago, that's what just about all of the astrophotographers used. But now they taken a seat way in the back compared to refractors and CATs. It's nice to see them still being used. It took a while to come down to it, but I voted for the photo of the Lagoon Nebula by mikefulb. It's a nice picture showing a lot of detail and the nebula is nicely framed in a cloud of stars.

I think they were all great and it was a tough decision. My vote went to Erika because the quality of her sketch almost had me believe that it was an image. Very well done!!
