Thanks for this very useful write-up. I currently have the SN8 f/4, but a lighter solution is most welcome.

The SN8 f/4 is a nice setup as well. A friend brought one over and with his DSI Pro II we took some nice photos. Like the GSO 200mm you have to replace the stock focuser if you want to use a DSLR or CCD camera.

I probably would have bought a SN8 if Meade would sell it as an OTA alone. But everywhere I looked it only came in a package deal with a mount.

Thank you! I think I was lucky when I found the one I did as well. Seems like someone ought to be able to bring these into the USA since I see alot of GSO equipment for sale online.

Hi - does any know the diameter of the secondary mirror and CO % on both these scopes the Vixen and GSO - I believe the GSO is 63mm / 33% CO ? but unsure.
Thanks for any info.

Sounds about right as I recall from measuring it. I believe I measured 2.6 inches, which is 66mm so close enough. Its large enough to reasonably illuminate a Canon DSLR chip (about 24mm) so that flats take care of all the vignetting.
