i sent message to owner for objective pictures and shipping.
i am going to try and get this as i do not have a f20
telescope.
they do not want to ship so it will most likely
be a shipping overcharge.
looks a little rough but i can see enough parts for the
restore job.

It's sort of hard to tell but I checked out the pictures pretty good. It looks "almost" complete. The only thing that "appears" to be rough is the top of the wooden box (actually destroyed). As you know ...... if they ship they better pack the counterweight by itself. It will distroy its holder and anything near it ... and ... make sure they bubble wrap everything in the box. Obviously I wouldn't buy if they won't answer or send a image of the objective.

they say they will post pictures tonight.
they said also they would pack all in bubble wrap.
after i see pictures i will ask them if they
could ship counterweight separate.
thanks for the heads up JWW.
when i saw this on ebay i was picturing your beautifull
telescope in my mind.
was looking at your website the other day
and you have a very impressive collection.
all top notch telescopes.

Seasons Greetings Brian,

Well I am not qualified to judge optics whatsoever and a novice from that perspective. Naturally its limited by aperture but I was able to view the Cassinis on Saturn easily. If the optics are fine then I think you will be happy (depending on what you pay for it).

Hi JWW, I noticed that on your SPI f20 focuser that there is a "diamond" on the identification plate. Could you tell me what is inscribed in the diamond. Thanks Mark

That is a blemish on the trademark that appears to be a circle like trademark. Here's another picture of a different SPI.

they have not posted pictures yet and
they skated around my questions about fungus, chips
and scratches on objective by saying i could look at pictures.
starting to get leery about this one.

Of course it's up to you but I wouldn’t buy it then. It might turn out to be fine too ... it's a tough call but wouldn't be worth the hassle to me. Then again, it might be to you if you enjoy re-furbishing things like this. If the price stays low and the objective is indeed damaged, then I suppose you can replace the objective as long as its not some odd ball size.

FYI: 60mm objectives with a 1200mm focal length are VERY hard to find.

Brian Hi

The circle insignia next to the serial number is the brand of Royal-Astro Optical Co Ind Ltd of Japan
I also have the actual Royal- Astro Optical branded 60mm f20
My scope is optically perfect and easily outclasses scopes of equal or larger diameter. I recently was able to compare it a Nikon scope and again I think the Royal outperformed it.

It easily views Cassini, splits doubles it theoretically shoud not, Jupiters belts and red spot are a sight and there is NO false color at all.

Astro Optical Made the classic 60mm and 75mm Tascos and many other scopes including I believe the 100mm Palomar and the Tasco 102mm

This Japanese manufacturer was one of the best and still exists today but as an Observatory manufacturer

Hope this helps

Steve

The Objective on the finder scope is cracked, what else? Sometimes things look good in pictures, they mentioned scratches and blems on tube its always a gamble.

Do you have a picture of YOUR trademark and if you don't can you take a in focus one?

Cheers,

Steve,

Just to let you know my 101mm x 1600 Palomar has the SYW trademark. Did Palomar make a 100mm?

I would love to find a 60mm f/20 OTA as my Unitron Equitorial would be a perfect mount for it. Please let me know if anyone has one for sale.

this is the best i could get after about 15 shots
after looking at tag above it is the same.
mine was all black so i wiped it with a
white grease pencil to bring out highlights.
it is so small compared to my other telescopes
its like they were trying to hide it.

I will take a photo of the insignia and I am sorry I meant the Palomar 101. Although it does not carry the insignia of Astro Opt I have been reliably advised that indeed it was made by Astro and rebranded.
I will try and get the photo done tonight

Brian
Mustgobigger is about right with his drawing. The depiction is accurate.

I am having trouble getting up close to my scopes insignia but here is one that I found on the net that is the same as mine except that the label on my scope is 2 toned metallic.
Regardless the insignia pictured here and the label are the same and the insignia is clear

Hope this helps.

i wonder if that is what the -A designation
after the serial # on my sears tag means.
most likely.
Royal-Astro Optical Co Ind Ltd of Japan
just souns better than Sears.
