Bonhams in New York City just auctioned off another round of nice meteorites. One beautiful Gibeon in particular with a large hole caught my eye. That was not surprising given the estimated value for the 24 kg Gibeon is $65,000 to $90,000.

Click on this link to see it.

My smaller 4 kg Gibeon (shown below) acquired during a previous NYC auction has a certain similarity and that, too, is not surprising since they both have a Machovich collection provenance and both were found by Namibia tribesmen using metal detectors.

View all meteorites in the April 30, 2008 Bonhams Auction.

Their specimen might be bigger, but I like the aesthetics of your piece better. :)

The hole in your smaller Gibeon is much more interesting I think - it resembles an eye socket.

Gary, what are you doing browsing these types of auction sites?! Did I create a monster?! :poke:

I don't know what brings the more tears and sadness to myself, the impossible prices of those beautiful meteorites at those auctions,or the impossible prices at the gas pumps, both are beyond my means today.
In a couple of weeks the value of one of those meteorites will be traded in gallons of gas,the dollar will become obsolete.

that rock would look very good in my house,
but I would have to see the house to buy it
then drive to NYC to collect it

maybe Mike's prices are not so bad after all,
