Anyone familiar with Aston-o-set refractors? There are two currently being offered on ebay, one for $800 and one for $35.

(I'm not the seller of either telescope.)

Oh, does that mean the tripod is worth $765?
Think I will pass on this one. I already have a too large collection of Astro-Wierdos.

Just ran across this one on Pittsburgh craigslist:

6" Criterion

No model or pics but it's probably an RV-6 at a good price if it's in good condition. (I'm not the seller.)

Good price on a 1986 Powerstar C-8 in San Diego.

(I'm not the seller.)

New guy here!

Kind of crazy, but I joined the forums to get info on this exact scope. I've already contacted the seller. I'm new to everything relating to telescopes and had set myself a $500 limit. Is this telescope any good? Can I find a replacement for the hand unit fairly easily? Sorry if this was posted in the wrong thread.

Replacement parts would probably be extremely difficult to get. Celestron is not obligated to have them. Most C-8s have suitable optics with an occasional kludge here and there. There's no way to tell without looking at/through them.

I think the hand paddle is only necessary for fast/slow electric motions for guiding photos, check to see if the drive runs without it and it'd be fine as a visual scope. Alternately, check the Astronomics and Company 7 websites for a scanned Powerstar Manual, and Astro Parts Outlet usually can supply missing stuff as well.

I wouldn't pay more than $500 for an old C-8.

There is a Royal of Tokyo Model R74 Telescope in Wood Case at the Goodwill site: http://www.shopgoodw...ItemID=4601957. The ad says local pickup only but maybe something can be worked out.

When I go look at an old scope I ask the seller not to touch the optics if they're thinkin about cleaning it up alittle :p. When I picked up my RV6, the seller was gonna clean the mirror with windex and paper towel :smirk:. He meant well.

That sounds like it would be quite a tour. 6" refractors and 24" reflectors not to mention the box of TeleVue's in the corner over there. It sounds like the seller knows this stuff's not cheap.

On the Powerstar, it will NOT run without the hand unit. I had one recently and had a devil of a time getting the HC to work. Definitely not for the faint-hearted.

Also, I advertised for a replacement both here and on Astromart with no luck.

I doubt things have changed for the better in that regard.

(I no longer have the Powerstar).
