Sorry to start another thread, but I thought this announcement warranted
a separate post rather than being tagged on to the end of a previous
thread.
I just wanted to let everyone know that the Mag-7 Star Atlas
Project is officially online -- with both black and white and color
versions of the atlas. Each atlas is comprised of 20 main charts and 1
supplemental chart that expands the Virgo / Coma Berenices regions.
The Mag-7 Star Atlas is released under a Creative Commons licence that
allows for free download and distribution for non-commercial purposes as
long as the original author / copyright holder is given credit. Derived
works are allowed so long as they are released under the same license terms.
Further information available on the project website (I left it at the
same url to avoid confusion since I am aware that the temporary location
actually got posted to a few lists):
http://www.siaris.ne...tlas/index.html
I am not sure how my bandwidth will hold up -- the 7-chart draft release
earlier this week caused a non-trivial spike. I'm open to offers of
mirroring and hopefully I won't be forced to shut down access due to
bandwidth overruns.
Enjoy,
andrew

Andrew,
Thanks.
Though your atlas lacks constellation names on some constellations (like Cassiopeia on Chart 1) with large segments on a particular chart. It would be useful to know what constellation is south of Cepheus on chart 1, for example.
Did you connect the dots, or did your charting software do it? It would be useful to have more dots connected (as, for example, on the Sky & Tel monthly charts), but this will do. After all, we can print them out and connect the dots any way we want, right?
Your atlas is a Telrad-using, starhopping, dob-owning, cheapskate's dream come true.
And you will have a gold star by your name, henceforth.
Thanks.

Thanks for the kind words Don. I've updated Chart-1 / ChartC-1 (and the
two tarballs) with a new Cas label.
As for the constellation lines, right now I rely on the default line-data
supplied with PP3 -- but I can easily add/modify that data if a case for
it is made (but it would be a low-priority issue in my mind -- as long as
enough lines exist for pattern-recognition to kick in I'm happy).
cheers,
andrew
