Here’s a close-up view of my DIY handle. Mounting, unmounting, carrying, everything is so much easier.

Lightswitch 8 ACF (6-10-2019)-1.jpg

My new-to-me Meade Lightswitch 8 ACF. I have had it out a couple of times and it is a lot of fun to use! The optics are excellent without any detectable image shift when adjusting the focus. The ACF optics group is wonderful and is a good match for modern UWA eyepieces. The scope gave a clean split of the double-double in Lyra and Hadley Rille was a fine twist of thread on the waxing gibbous moon. The mount is surprisingly sturdy though the tripod is a tad light, but that makes it easy to carry fully assembled. I may make an adapter so that I can use a Meade standard field tripod, but the original is fine for visual. GoTo's are spot-on as is the tracking. I'm looking forward to doing at least some basic imaging tests with it. The automatic alignment is quick'n easy and fun to watch. Just flip on the power switch and a few minutes later the last alignment star is centered in the eyepiece. My second night out started very hazy and I could barely see the alignment stars (Arcturus and Vega), but the alignment routine had no problems finding them in bright twilight. The Autostar III is easy to use and the Astronomer Inside adds a nice touch. I like being able to configure it to call up the audio descriptions on-demand rather than automatically. The audio files are narrated by Sandy Wood who also does the StarDate podcasts from McDonald Observatory. The descriptions are reasonably short and well written. I used a little LED monitor to test the AV and I like it so much that I'll be adding the little 3.5" Lightswitch monitor. The multi-line display of the monitor is a nice addition to the handbox as is the night mode. I added a Meade electronic micro-focuser which works flawlessly from the Autostar and is a nice addition to fine tune the focus without touching the scope. An Astrozap flexible dew shield completes the basic scope. I was thinking about using SkySafari for star-hopping, but I couldn't get my SkyFi to connect, so I'll be adding a 50mm RACI finder as soon as I can. I kinda like having that option anyway. :)

I agree, a splash of green would look nice, one day wink.gif  .  The Takahashi EM400 tripod makes the BB Planet seem like a toy by comparison cool.gif .

This has a load capacity of 450Kg or 1000 lbs...... but is a bit heavier as well.

-Clear aperture 16"

-Flexible primary for changing the percentage of 'parabolicity', to match the total optical system to different secundaries, and correct any spherical aberrations (even those in my eyes at lower magnifications)

-Currently two secundaries, easily swappable, giving a range from F/9.45 to F/20 in 4 steps, involving a focal reducer in two setups:

F/15 setup which can be lowered to F/9.45 with 0.63 reducer at 24% obstruction.
F/20 setup which can be lowered to F/12,6 with 0.63 reducer at 17% obstruction

Scope fully insulated to prevent internal turbulences.
F/15 carbon fiber obstruction of only 150 grammes (5.29oz), to prevent heat plumes from the obstruction.
F/20 carbon fiber obstruction of 95 grammes (3.39oz)
Super light weight carbon fiber baffle tubes to match with the two secundaries.

Secundaries 2.3mm thin, for ultra fast acclimatization.

Found some really old photos from 2004 when I was all film based. My LX-200 8" F/6.3 OTA (removed from the forks) a custom adjustable ring and a ETX-90 riding on top, of my first "good" mount a MI-250 non goto. The 8" has a Canon EOS-1v camera and the ETX has an Olympus OM-1 on it. The STV is using the remote guide head mounted under the main plate with the lens attached.

Love your MI-250 mount.  I had one years ago.  Loved it.  It was a rock.
