Hello,

this is the second collaboration between Calar Alto Observatory and the Documentary School of Astrophotography, the Ring nebula:

Posted Image

(Link to the full res image).

Thi photo has been done with the 1,23 and 3,5 meter telescopes, and has a total integration time of 22 hours.

We acquired the data through six different filters:

- Narrowband OIII and H-alpha with the 1,23m scope (18 hours integration time).

- Broadband BVR with the 3,5m scope (3 hours integration time).

- And molecular hidrogen at 2,12 microns with the IR camer Omega-2000 attached to the 3,5m telescope (45 min integration time).

Here you can read the official image release at CAHA website.

For further technical details, please visit PixInsight Blogs, the DSA blog and my website.

Hope you will enjoy this work!
Best regards,
Vicent.

Hi it's amazing all the nebulas around the center!!!
In your sitte you have a mistake, it's Messier 57, and you write 97.

For my eyes, the ring nebula now more looks like the "tunnel nebula"
Amazing view.

I like the photo with the whole "wide" field more. I know you can see it in the full-res version, but you should do a 800px image of the entire field as well.

About the image, I've already told you... I've seen M57 and it doesn't look like that ;) I absolutely love the image, but I think you should explain in the web sites the reasoning behind your decision to deconvolve only the center of the nebula, because as it gets more publicity (because it will, because it should) I think it may be the most commented aspect of the image - besides the well-deserved WOWs of course!

Vicent,
I thought I had seen some great images of M57 before, but your image takes the grand prize! Fantastic data collaberation from both scopes, and the different filters that you used. I really like the nebulosity that surrounds the outside of the nebula. Terrific job.

Hi again,

I have updated my post at PixInsight Blogs as suggested Rogelio. Now it includes a better explanation of the deconvolution process applied to the image. It includes also now some 3D plots.

Thanks you very much Rogelio.
Best regards,
Vicent.

Defintely need to add 1.23 and 3.5 meter telescopes to my wish list. As soon as I win the lottery.

Now if I order one, do I have to order with a comma between the whole and fractional parts, or will the manufacturer know how to interpret periods? :)

I agree with the other comments here. This is spectacular. Congratulations. M57 seems to take on a different character every time a fantastic image comes out.

stunning shot
love the handling of the different filters
was deconvolution applied after stretching?
why are there so many dark areas in the ring compared to the hubble version?
