focusing knobs---a debate??

the orion reflector isnt bad, but i have noticed on
the smaller astroview refractors from orion the focusing knobs are too close to the tube....it could be remedied with
some homemade ingenuity....i still have my montgomery ward
60mm refractor and the knobs come further out from the
tube making it more comfortable to focus....
this ole 60mm is still in top knotch shape with a metal
diagonal, but the lenses are the pits, but they worked
like charms to a kid years ago who didnt know any better :lol:

It might be that the worm shaft for the knobs are longer on the Monkey Ward refractor.

haha yeppers! :lol: good ole monkey ward... we dont have
them anymore around here but they sure had a good
salesman for that telescope!! :roflmao:

btw.... do any of you who own more expensive refractors
find this to be true about the focusing knobs?
dont ya think orion could do a little better perhaps?

I thought the knobs on my AR-6 were too small and cheap looking. I had no problem with their operation.

I replaced mine with 2" knurled aluminum knobs from Focusknob.com.

Yea,
ditto as Schultz on my Meade too. I hate plastic knobs they crack eventually with time. Had a set go bad on a 90mm that was about 8yrs old. Dave
