Orion took out the ED scope from their web page, we cannot order anymore. Anybody knows why?

When I checked on Orion's site yesterday morning, it was on there but when I check availability, it said "sorry, this product is no longer available" in red. When I looked later it was completely off the site. I think people are still seeing it from old cached pages.

I'm glad I scooped one up when I did. Maybe these will stop being manufactured, become mega-ultra-rare, and sell for many thousands of dollars on the used market! :money:

Doesn't make sense... Unless... They are coming out with a new, improved one that fixes all the focuser problems in addition to adding a 100mm and 120mm version as well!!! :jump:

I emailed Orion and they said it was back ordered until Jan.'04. They did not mention discontinuing it. They are just trying to catch-up on the current orders.

Best Regards,
Ricky

Sometimes I don't like Orion because they always postpone the "back ordered" date.

Word from other groups is - It's a web glitch. When in doubt, call.

"Problems with technology??? Imagine that!"

Only what's here....

http://hatchet.badax....us/~tomt/ed80/

And Bill May has a shot here:

http://home.comcast....ay/CRW_1325.jpg

I think this is a 2min high ISO shot (1600) with a canon 10D so it's a little noisy - No processing (or stacking), except resized 1/2 and saved as a jpeg - but it gives you an idea of what you can get right out of the camera. FWIW, it looks like a nice flat field with little vingetting.

He posted the stacked/processed version in the Orion_ED yahoo group photo files.

You might plunder Bill's homepage at: http://home.comcast.net/~wpmay/

Don't know what you will find, but I'm sure it will be interesting.... I think his Lunar Ecllipse shots were taken through his ED80.

Fraid, a) I've been out of town, b) I've been ill, c) I've been ill and out of town (always fun), d) it's been raining, e) it's been snowing, f) it's been cloudy, or g) all of the above.

FWIW - I'm not really much of an astrophotographer in any case. I'm mainly a visual kinda guy.

According to Zak at Orion today, they are heavily backordered, and are "correction errors on the web page" for the ED80. I'm looking forward to learning astrophotography with this beast; still have my old Nikon FE; just need to learn how to track for 10-15 minutes.
