Hello, I attempted first light last night with my ASI533MC-pro using APT and after connecting the camera and selecting "live view" the live loop looks almost off white with no change in exposure while removing or replacing the lens cap. Do you have any suggestions for first user setup? or is there something I may be missing??

Hello Lucas,

Thank you for your interest!

Please use Shift+Click on the Connect button and make sure that the option ZWO camera is selected.

When you start LiveView you will see LiveView settings dialog box. If you have "Video LiveView" unchecked there then APT is making "Images LiveView" and you can control the exposure via the Camera Tab. In this mode you can also use Tools Tab->Histogram- Auto Str-L button to make automatic stretching.

If the Video LiveView is enabled then you can control set auto-exposure and leave the camera to find the optimal one.

BTW, I absolutely love this autofocus aid.  Its different than some others, but I like the control and tailorization APT provides.  With this new function an OAG and electronic focuser for my 9.25 SCT, Im getting sharp SHARP stars at exposures up to 9 minutes!

I'm trying to use APT in conjunction with my Nikon D5100, but APT locks up and I get nowhere. Which cable do I need or do I need both, one for live viewing and one for the shutter?

Nikon Cables

Hello Gary,

The D5100 is a bit older model and needs two cables to control the camera - the USB cable is used to control the camera settings like ISO, LiveView image downloading and etc. The second cable needed is serial cable needed to control the exposure. To avoid possible problems, please upgrade your APT 3.91 to 3.92. Apologies for the inconvenience!

It happened that 3.92 was not complete cure for the old problems so 3.93.1 is released. The good news is that it is further step into automatic refocusing for DSLRs.

If you are using 3.91 or 3.92 make sure to upgrade to 3.93.1 smile.gif

The new version of APT is here with many exciting features. The short list includes automatic focusing and refocusing for DSLR cameras. One more tab in the main screen – Summary Tab which defines a new level of APT usability. The top three are finished with PAPS – Polar Align via Plate Solving, implementation of the popular 3-point polar alignment. PAPS is using mathematical problem solution and code made by Rumen Bogdanovski, who made it for the INDIGO and AIN Imager projects.

The full list of novelties is available here:

http://www.astrophotography.app/news

Some features of the full version are made available in the demo smile.gif

Note: APT 3.88 is the last version that works under Windows XP.
