Back to the original question - in the $3500 price range, and given that you are even considering an 8" achro (so this is not a grab-n-go scope), why wouldn't you consider a good newtonian?

Your suggestion is much better for deep sky, but lacking the contrast, clarity, and pinpoint stars of even an 8" achro at f/15 for planetary viewing.

It won't be untill late spring. I have always wanted to do film photography with a telescope. That was back when it was the only way to do it and I had nice cameras back then.
