big "newbie" here so if I am in the wrong place forgive me:
While horseback riding my wife found a what looks like a pretty complete Astola (see above). Being one not to throw anything old away I went and dragged it home, unforunately some kids had dismantled it but I was able to get all the parts back (neighbors). I would like to get these parts to people who could use them. Is there any value in them?
I,m an old car guy and no nothing about these things.
Why someone would just dump this thing I have no idea.
any help greatly appreciated.

That's gotta' be a stolen item. We really need to find a way to check this situation out. Try local authorities - It's possible there's a theft report on file.

nope, it was dumped with a bunch of left-over garage sale goods. My thought is a family getting booted out after foreclosure. In Socal, people are pigs and dump anywhere they can. It was less than 1/2 mile from a track of houses

In Riverside, and trust me I know, I,ve been commuting 32/miles each way for the last 18/years, takes an hour each way. As far as the mirror, it was dusk when I got it home so I will know after this weekend. Sure is a tank. I was going to use the tripod for a grinder stand until I figured out what the whole thing was.

So, are you looking to sell this critter or what?

There's a Shop & Swap section of the forums here on CN that is specifically for selling, and there is also a classifieds section as well.

These things do happen. My Cave was found in the basement of a very old commercial office building downtown and I was told it had been down there at least thirty years!

Looks like it can be overhauled to me! The tube will probably have to be replaced and it looks like it needs a counterweight, but otherwise, it looks basically complete to me.

Looks like there's some brass there as well - setting circles.
