I recently saw an ad for barriers made out of pvc pipe to block light out around your yard, garage, etc. At $300 they were pricey, especially since it looked like they could be made myself. Anybody have ideas or a source for plans? The pvc portion would be easy, but I would like them to be able to be taken down easily, and I need an ideal type of fabric that would block light out. Thanks!

PVC pipe with a few washered through bolts that have eyehooks on end. Blue or green tarps with grommets can hang off the hooks. Use shower curtain mini-caribener type closers to hook tarps to eyehooks. Set up like tentpoles. Up and down in minutes.

I built some out of PVC pipe (approx. 30"Wx62"H) and thick black plastic sewn into pillow cases that slip over the top of the (5) PVC frames. The frames are hinged with cable ties in the lower half of the frames. They fold up into one carryable unit. Cost about $30 total. They don't look all that good, but they work.

Now if your innovative types would only come up with a mosquito barrier that also blocks out stray light in the back yard I would be every so appreciative ... and remember, an insecticide "zone of death" won't work because it is very, very difficult to use binos while wearing a gas mask. :bawling:

There is a review here on Cloudy Nights under How Tos about building one type of light barrier.
