I posted this in the LXD55 forum, but Scott suggested I ask you in here.

I recently bought a 2" diagonal for future use with some 2" EP's. Right now I'm using the 1.25" adapter for those sizes. The problem is that when using the 4mm EP I don't have enough "in" focuser travel to bring this EP to focus because the EP sits too high in the diagonal using the adapter. The larger EP's work OK, but there's not much focuser travel left going in.

Scott said you work in the industry and might know of a reverse 1.25" adapter that allows the EP to sit farther in the diagonal to increase "in" focuser travel.

Any leads on something like that?

If need be, I'm going to modify the one I have.

Thanks.

Al,
I threw your name in the mix on this one

I have heard of a slightly recessed 1 1/4" adapter for a 2" diagonal, have you seen one?

If I can't find anything that works, I'm going to take out about an inch of the diagonal in the vertical and then piece it back together.

The 2" EP barrels will be more exposed, but they will still bottom where they are supposed to and lock in the diagonal with the set screws.

Hi Schultze,
Now that's new to me ...... being paged here! Really cute.

I understand your problem. I haven't seen such an adapter myself. It would be very easy to machine these things.

An adapter can be machined so that the eyepiece will sit further into the adapter. A problem arises now because there will be no setscrew to lock onto the eyepiece barrell.

I have some material at hand that I can use for a quick adapter. I'll let you know what I have tomorrow morning.

Thanks for the quick reply. I think since it would be lacking a set screw I might be better off cutting an inch out of the vertical part of the diagonal. That way, I can still seat 2" EP's and the 1.25's will be an inch farther into the focuser and I retain the set screws for both.

Let me know if you come up with anything though. I'm pretty handy in the shop.

I think I found something that may work. http://www.astronomi...type_id=3&vid=3

This is the Tele-Vue low-profile adapter. That should give me some extra drawtube length. In addition I got about another 1/4" from screwing the 2" focuser tube farther onto the focuser drawtube. I didn't know it was adjustable.

Schultze,
That was the one I heard of before!!! Way to jog my memory

I knew there was something out there. I read about it on a Yahoo group somewhere, and couldn't remember the specifics.

Hi,
I have one of these low profile adapters now. It can be recessed further into the 2" diagonal. The eyepiece is secured with a 1/4-20 set screw that requires an allen wrench since its recessed. The whole affair then slides into the diagonal as a 2". The hazard is that if one isn't careful, contact can be made with the mirror.

Is that the Tele-Vue adapter you're talking about, or another brand?

How much will you charge to make me one? I'd sure like one just like that and then I don't have to hack up my diagonal.

Hi Schultze,
Send address to misiukal@hotmail.com

This adapter can be used either way. Be careful that it doesn't damage your mirror, because it has no stop.

See what you think of it.
