Hi all!
I downloaded the Starry Night Pro software to my pc. Since weather here has been total washout, I tested it by setting up the LX200 scope in my living room, pointed scope to north, did a alignemnt, hooked up scope to pc and connected Starry Night software to scope. On my screen was the current sky display with the current date and time.
I took mouse and pointed it at target on screen, right clicked mouse and selected slew to. without touching hand control, the scope slewed to target ( I first chose our SUN) where the postion of the sun should be, it went there! Wow is this some software. I can choose any target thats is up in sky for that night and go there. More targets than what is in the Meade catalog. Now My last act for 2003 is to get a decent laptop and and load the software to that. Cant wait to try it out on a real clear night. Now my next test is to setup the NS11GPS and try same procedure. Anyone have a suggestion on a decent not too expensive laptop?

Thanks Echo. Will give em a try. Since I already purchased my pc from them, might as well try Dell for the laptop. I went to CompUSA and they are over priced. How has the skies been your way? Its overcast here. Looks like 2003 was a washout. Hope 2004 is better.

HP.com has better deals on refurbished laptops. I own one and many of my friends do. They are great and you get great service out of HP.

I'll agree with Charles. I've had great support with HP laptops.

Ok. Now its time to choose. Dell, HP? geeze this is too much. By Monday I will post my selection. I did a test on the NS11GPS this evening. That too worked fine. I know there must be other software packages out there but this one really impressed me. It was really eerie seeing the scope slewing just from me clicking on targets from my pc. Wow how technology has leaped forward!

Mike,
I have an HP laptop. I got it at Best Buy on sale. My only hesitation is that the motherboard died after 1 month of use and I had to send it away for 6 weeks for repair. I'm not sure if this a trend or an isolated incident. It seems fine now for what it's worth!

I really think you got screwed Tina. One of my friends that had a HP Refurbished laptop like mine was having problems with his and he would send it to HP direct and within five business days he would have it back. The second time it did the same thing they gave him a upgraded better laptop and just kept the one he sent in. I'm really surprised you had to wait so long. Did you take it back to Best Buy or send it directly to HP?

Will wait till January to purchase laptop. Just completed XMAS shopping. My wallet is kinda empty right now lol. I am now leaning towards Dell. They also sell refurished systems as someone pointed out to me.

Mike,
I've hinted and will go get it myself if Santa forgets.

Charles,
HP had the computer. The mother board and power circuitry fried. The funny part was the message I got when I first booted up after I got it back. It said "Your computer has recovered from a serious error". I was cracking up. As if I hadn't noticed on my own. Ya gotta love Windows.

I'm really surprised HP kept it that long. Everyone I have known has gotten theirs back within a week.

I always make a point of picking out something absurd so my final choice doesn't seem nearly as bad as it could be. If I start out at $390.000 or so, I may be able to pull off a NP127 or TAO130 someday. :waytogo:

When hubby is asleep, play a tape over and over with this msg ' Must buy Tina a NP127,Tina is deserving,Tina is one with the world, I am only her slave'. Then later when he gets the the monthly bill from credit card and asks you with a blank look what's this?, give him a return blank look and say I dont know, its your signature on the receipt not mine'. ;) Stick with me and by end of year you will have enough astronomy equipment to open your own store!
I really hope skies get better here, I think I have been cooped up in house too much lately
