Well... in my research, I got a copy of a 1969 import manifest from Cali for Swift-branded binoculars with Hiyoshi as the exporter.  Bird watchers have favorable posts on these, and my 1964 Monolux 4380 had the brightest views of any 60mm F15 that I've used.  Made this remarkable Mars image with the 4380 + eyepiece projection (KE30) + Orion SS2 camera back in April 2014:

Both polar caps, Syrtis, and haze along the limb toward Tharsis.  The things you can see with a small frac -- if it's a good one.
