Time for my semiannual eyepiece change out. Gone are the Vixen SLVs, two of the AT XWAs, pairs of 18.2mm and 13mm DeLites.

Just arrived is a pair of 18mm UFFs, and incoming are pairs of 13mm, 9mm and 7mm Nagler T6s, and a 16mm T5. I will be posting a wanted ad for a second 16mm T5 Nagler. I'm trying to decide whether to look for what would be my third pair(!) of 24mm Panoptics. Apparently those are scarce, according to those who care about TV eyepieces. wink.gif

Of uncertain status are a pair of 24mm Brandons and my Leica ASPH zoom. The Brandons are simply marvelous in the binoviewer, but stink in my f/5 dob as singles.

What has made you swap Delites for UFFs?

That eyepiece line came to fruition like this:

Designer: "What focal lengths do you need us to make?"

Product owner: "Yes"

I hadn’t actually planned on the UFFs but Svbony put them on sale after I sold the DeLites. I sold the DeLites for the used Naglers I bought. Fact is, I tend to skip 18mm anyway , so both the UFF and DeLites were money wasted. I’m weird that way.

I tried a few different things over the last few years (mostly inexpensive wide fields and planetaries) and wound up sticking with my line up from 2020. This could be the “final” eyepiece collection for now.
Eyepieces 2020
Left to Right: Tele Vue Plössls 32mm, 20mm, 15mm, 11mm and 8mm, plus Fujiyama 6mm Ortho

However, I do have a “Dream” eyepiece set that I’ll get someday (likely as a retirement present to myself)…
Dream Team
All the DeLites plus a 24mm Panoptic!

Clear Skies!

No-premium eyepieces set, to test how things works. All fits in a small handy case.

SPL/NPL 4-6-8-15-25mm

Omni 15mm

BCO 10-18mm

Redline 6-9-20mm

TMB 2,5-4mm

UFF 10-18mm

Telecentric 2x

Barlow 3x

FR 0,5x (BTW, the 0,5x with the redline 6mm show pinpoint stars till the edge of field with my scope approx 36x, 1,85° TFoV. Great combo)

A 5x barlow will join and may be 6mm BCO, 10-20mm NPL and 30mm SPL.

Since the scope has small focal length and aperture (4" F4), a difference of 2 mm in eyepiece focal lengths gives 0,5mm difference in Exit pupils.

Premium eyepieces set has begun with a 24 panoptic (same price as all my actual eyepieces +3x barlow), powermate 2,5x. others will follow, once new scope will enter the game.

I will go with 82º or 76° and also premium ortho/plössl.

I have settled on my main eyepieces, not really in flux, I know what I like and I am satified with what I got. All eyepieces are pretty darn good.

TeleVue: TV55

Brandon: 2" 48mm

Brandon: 32mm, 24mm, 16mm, 12mm.

I plan on adding the new 20mm Brandon eyepiece sometime this week.

I don't really have a use for the Brandon 8mm & 6mm eyepieces as the eye relief is minimal and I have a TV Powermate in 1.25": 2.5x & 5x, and a 2" 4x also.

My N22T4 was replaced with an APM XWA 20mm, but the large changes are in case organisation:

  • Case one. All APM XWAs except for the 3.5mm - high mags achieved with Baader VIP barlow (now fully 2")
  • Case two. Two groups: (30 APM UFF and Zeiss zoom) and (24 Pan, docter, Delos 8mm and Delos 6mm). Again, high mags achieved with VIP barlow
  • Case three: 24 Pan, 13-9-7 Naglers T6, Nagler zoom 6-3mm.

Case one is used with the 16" F4 w/ PC2 and 12" F6 dobsons.

Case two (group one) is used with my 4" Tak refractor and (group two) with 16" F4 w/o PC2 and 12" F6.

Case three is used with my 4" Tak refractor and TV-60.

There is a chance I will sell the 13 and 7 Naglers T6 as they are not used with the TV-60 at all and with the 4" Tak, I prefer the combo 30 APM UFF and Zeizz zoom +/- VIP barlow.

My goldilocks, first and last and always true eyepieces. Well, ther're more but these really matter

goldilocks.JPG

Do well in any of my casses AND in the short 102/460 frac (except the 6 in the casses at the moon due to the ring of fire) but the ES 6.7 mm is no more than a substitute here.

I've settled in to this line-up for now. Except that the Celestron E-Lux 40mm doesn't get much use. I wish Svbony made a 32mm Plossl to match the rest of the set. I also need to spend more money so that my lone TeleVue 7.4mm has some company.

Here is my Takahashi set....

Thanks for posting that! I really appreciate nice, functional eyepieces that are just black with maybe a rubber grip. Nothing fancy but work perfectly well.

I tend to shy away from eyepieces that could pass as a Christmas ornament (hello Meade + Celestron with your bulbous bodies!) or a turkey leg (ie: Tele Vue Delos) although I understand why the turkey leg is turkey leg like... ya gotta get those fancy lenses in there somehow!

Anyway, just really appreciate the aesthetic of your eyepiece collection.

Clear skies!

Rick

Thanxs, I was waiting for such comment

I love TPLs so much I had to get all of them in pairs, and 50mms if one day I will use some binoscope.

BTW, 2" binoviewers are not good at all, otherwise I would making them.

Do I understand correctly that these are specialized eyepieces for planets?

The highest contrast is in the center, due to the blurred periphery.
