Great story!  I'm very happy for you and finding the right person to share astronomy with you is a bonus.

Good Luck,

Richard,

I thought you parted ways with the Nagler 22T4.

No eyepieces between 20 and 9 mm? Or just no updates in the range?

Oops, I'll remove it!

No new additions between 20 & 9mm, as FLs get shorter, my choices for long eye relief and easy exit pupil behaviour are more limited than 20+ mm. None I have not considered or own.

After a hiatus from deep sky observing...my set is as follows.  I don't carry extra eyepieces as I use pretty much whatever is in my case. And I have only one case.

Primary

* "low-glass count" eyepieces: 16, 10, 6 and 4mm ZAO-II and 25mm ZAO-I and 18, 12.5, 9, 7, 5mm Baader Genuine Orthos.  I use these most of the time.

* "high-glass count" eyepieces: 14, 10, 8 and 6mm Delos.  Actually working on getting the last two as I sold them fund something else and looking to pick them up soon.

* Finder eyepiece: 24mm Panoptic

Edit: TMB 1.8x ED barlow

Public Star Party

* 12 and 8mm Agena Astro Starguider Dual ED along with the 24mm Panoptic.

Oops, correction.  17.3 Delos not 14mm Delos.  Still working on acquiring a replacement 8mm Delos.

Photo below is all I have for observing.  Eyepieces, filters, two Rigel Quikfinders, pens, reading glasses, Rigel red LED lights, etc.  Everything in one case.  What fits in there is what i keep, anything that doesn't gets sold.  I'm just a one case guy.

Note: The 16mm ZAO-II is the "missing" as it was in the focuser of my refractor looking at something last night.  I left it outside in my back of my property and whew it is still there.

Sold my 25mm ZAO-I as I don't use it.  I did pick up a 25mm Tak MC Abbe ortho.  Spent the difference on something else.  smile.gif

Looking forward to regular extreme deep sky observing again.

I just realized that my Doskocil eyepiece case and the two Rigel LED lights are more 32 years old and still going strong.

Edit: I should state that I do not own any 2" eyepieces, all 1.25".  My self centering collet adapter lives in my 2" JMI focuser. I take it out only when I'm using 2" collimation tools.

As of yesterday:

APM XWA 3.5mm

Nag T6      5mm

Nag T6      7mm

Nag T6      9mm

Nag T6     13mm

DeLite       18.2mm

ES 68° /     20mm

Nag T4      22mm whee.gif

Pan           24mm

APM UFF  30mm

My 2" line is "future proofed" with a 2x APM ED Barlow and a 3X ES tele-expander providing a glasses-friendly ER and generous AFOV for the additional FL's of 20/14.6 mm ( BWx1.5) ;  15/11mm ( BWx2);  10/7.3 (BWx3)

The cell of the APM 2x BW can be screwed directly in the EP acting as a 1.5x

Latest set

Tried the 30mm UFF in an F/5 Newt and am highly impressed. Very clean view. Also, while the Pentax 3.5mm is not terribly huge or heavy, the 4.5mm Morpheus feels like it is made from air in comparison, air with an 8* wider field.  Baader needs to make a 3.5mm Morpheus right now.

Haven't even gotten around to trying the 4.5, 6.5mm Morpheus, the Nikon barlow, the 20mm XWA , nor even the HRs. I need to get out more.

The 6mm Radian is the odd one out, way heavier than the Delite, it may aswell be a 6mm Delos.

Found a very good deal on a full set of Dual EDs from a shop in Australia. Shipped, it was $290 for all six, brand new. That's $100-130 less than anywhere else. Basically got two focal lengths for free.

Always wanted to try them and have a nice set for the kids' telescopes.

The shop is a bit of an unknown so hopefully no issues.

I lost count: ~ 50 different types/sizes? How do you choose? For me, that would be paralysis by analysis. ( I do understand and admit that you've been at this a tad longer than I have).

28/82, 20/100, 14/82, 10/82, 7/100 and a 2" 2× Barlow for my "Primo" set

32mm plossl, 20,15,9,6 mm Redlines, 7mm excel lx, and a 4mm , 2× Barlow as a grab-n-go.

I don't know what else I could want, or would use ( maybe a 20/82: lighter than the "Hand Grenade" 20/100)

Long focal length eyepieces:

100 degree Class:  20mm XWA, 13mm XWA, 13mm Ethos, 10mm Ethos, 9 mm XWA, 8 mm Ethos, 7mm XWA, 4.8mm XWA, 3.5mm XWA.

Miscellaneous Eyepieces and such: Several 1.25 inch 2x GSO Barlows, 2x 2 inch GSO Barlow, Photo Visual Paracorr, Paracorr 2.  20mm Orion LHD, Celestron X-Cel LX 3X Barlow.  There's also an ES 20mm 68 and a 24mm TV Wide Field with home made cross hairs.

There are also several Plossls and the like that will be given away with scopes that are given away.

I've recently acquired a 17.3mm TV Delos. For now, it will be used as part of my long eye relief set ("glasses set"):

Baader VIP Barlow (30 APM UFF, 17.3 Delos, 12.5 Docter, 8-6 Delos) with my 16 F4+PC2 dob. In particular, the first 3 VIP'ed eyepieces will become approx: 16mm, 9.5mm and 6.8mm. all these 1.25" EPs have a Baader pushfix adapter so they work as 2" EPs.

One day if I have to observe with glasses on a regular basis, I might replace the docter with a 10mm Delos to use a similar set of focal lengths without the VIP barlow, but that's a long shot.

Here's my update rolling into 2025. I purchased an entire set of Celestron Omni Plössls for less than the price of one of my Tele Vue Plössls. The Celestrons impressed me and upon initial comparison, there's not much between them and the Tele Vues. However, I plan on doing a more detailed examination before the Omnis could possibly usurp the Tele Vues from my eyepiece case (doubtful). I also picked up an orange-label Celestron 25mm Plössl which actually fits nicely into both my Omni set and my Tele Vue set. So, for now, the eyepiece case looks like this:

Eyepieces 2025

Left to right: Tele Vue 32mm Plössl, Celestron 25mm Plössl, Tele Vue 20mm Plössl, Tele Vue 15mm Plössl, Tele Vue 11mm Plössl, Tele Vue 8mm Plössl, Fujiyama 6mm Ortho

I will likely keep using the Tele Vues as my primary eyepiece set, and then keep the Celestrons for either loaning out, or perhaps outreach if I ever get back into doing that. Or I may just gift them to my daughter if she wants them.

Merry Christmas! gnome.gif

My eyepieces collection (if someone care) is now:

I still need an APM UFF 24mm, and, if I have some free cash to spend, maybe a  Skyrover UWA 13mm, a Vixen SLV 2.5mm and a KSON ortho II 24mm to see if the coatings are as good as the Baader Classic.

My little eyepiece- collection so far....but actually this is all I need.
(I know time will tell me different...)

Found a nice case to put in my:

- 25 mm Celestron Omni (...came with the scope, but it was too good to replace it.)
- 7 & 9 mm Celestron X-Cel LX (the best of the line)
- 5 mm Baader Hyperion.
- 14 & 28 mm Hyperion extension rings.
- 2 x barlow X-cel LX.
- A (very) cheap erecting (strange word) 10 mm eyepiece, just for fun.
- The Baader Neodymium Moon and Skyglow filter - 1,25 inch.
- UHC filter - 1,25 inch.Cloud5.png

I have seriously reduced my eyepiece collection over the last few weeks, beginning when I sold my two binoviewers (long story) and started selling off half of my pairs. Current line up is:

APM 30mm UFF

30mm Svbony super plossl (not bad)

24mm Brandon

16mm T5 Nagler

13mm T6 Nagler

9mm T6 Nagler

5mm T6 Nagler

2x Starguider 8mm-24mm zooms for dual Ha/white light rig

1.8x TMB Barlow

I am halfway thinking of going back to a set consisting only of the 30mm UFF and another Leica ASPH zoom and a Barlow.

I'm still growing mine as I was told to not buy anything until I learned to use what I had. When I got my Celestron starsense explorer 10 inch dobsonian telescope, I purchased a Televue 5mm Delite and an Explorer Scientific 14 mm 82° eyepiece (because I thought the planets were going to be much bigger 😅)....I like them though they might be overkill. I also have the 25mm plossl that came with the scope and a 2x Barlow.

I've recently ordered a Televue 40 mm plossl, pvs-14 67 mm adapter, and extension tube with a 55 mm plossl to be shipped when back in stock.

I think I'm going to get a better 25mm plossl as well.

I'm currently stalking this thread for recommendations. My first passion is visual, but I do have a NVD if that helps.

Set number 1:

Here are my wide fields (1 intruder). I will also put the pictures of the cases since it since to be a question coming back often in how to store them. Maybe a little less widespread method with the padded dividers.

It is a B+W type 5000 with padded dividers, costs ~130 bucks a lot less than pelican and it is very good. I fit also a BBHS prism with filter wheel, a pear blower, a torch and tons of desiccant with room to spare.

- Mop 50mm 53° (the intruder shocked.gif )

- Masuyama 32, 20, 16, 10mm 85°

- SSW 14, 10, 7, 5mm 83°

- Televue Barlow (3x lens on 2x body so ~2.4-2.5x)

For the filters:

- UHC broadband: baader UHC-S

- UHC: televue bandmade type II

- OIII: astronomik

- HBeta: baader 5.5nm (newly acquired)

The only eyepiece I would ever consider to buy now would be the SSW 3.5mm that is impossible to find anywhere. I keep looking though ;-) Browsing classifieds everyday.

Set number 2:

The small ones (1 intruder). In a convenient case I got at telescope service:

https://www.teleskop...ssory-case-6118

MOP 30, 20, 15, 10, 7.5, 5mm

TPL 25, 18, 12.5, 9, 6mm

TOE 4, 3.3, 2.5mm

SSW 5mm (for some odd reason I have two of these, the first is in my set number 1.)

That's the planetary observation dream. I also have a filter wheel with baader yellow, green, blue, neodymium.

I recently acquired a Takahashi 1.5x ED extender that I will use with this set, haven't had the chance to properly try it yet.
