I suppose it's some kind of sign when one of the obsessive compulsives that follow this site has compiled a list such as this. I guess also it's a sign that I am same insofar as I'm reading this thread.

I've been inspired to compose my own sig line:

Thank heavens for amatuer astronomy; I haven't had this much fun being kept in the dark since my honeymoon.

I applaud you, Matty...it's so true. My recent purchases resulted in loosing my tax break. :)

11 and 14 are equally true...15 is very true. 28 gives me a giggle, and 50, well...not so true, but understandable. All others get honorable mention. They are all creative, even the George Carlin copy (loves me some Carlin, RIP.)

Fun read, yes. I always read signatures. Yea, making this an annual event is a great idea. :)

Heh - I just read through this list - definitely a fun read.

My prior signature was even on there; glad it tickled someone's fancy.

Fun to read and thanks for making me #5. :roflmao:

It's something my Dad and I used to kid each other about.

Cheers,

I've changed mine since this was up, but mine was #2. I don't remember where I saw it, but it sure caught my attention!

I was honored to be at #42.

That was a great idea to put that together and a great read.

I loved reading these. In fact when I read "The Most Interesting Astronomer's" one back several months ago, I almost fell out of my chair laughing. I was inspired to add one to my profile as well. It's a poem I wrote many years ago. It was the first poem I ever wrote, and its subject was stars... that really does show I've loved this stuff all my life. Thanks for posting this. I'm surprised I didn't see it sooner.

And right back atcha! :smarty: I had a whole list of quotes like that, but I can't remember where I put them. I'm going to have to dig around my old files.

My last one made number 40. I might have to change it back sometime, too.

I had to chuckle at #35..."If you keep stacks of old Orion catalogs in your bathroom, you are definitely an astro-redneck."

I only keep the latest copy in my throne room; however, my eleven year old son will spend an hour in there reading it. He always comes out wanting a new lens!

Cheers...Eric

Hmmm.... perhaps it time to remind readers that the number in front of the entries simply reflect the order I added them to the list, and no qualitative ranking of any kind is suggested or implied by me.

(Also, all warranties of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose whether express or implied are hereby disclaimed. Offer void where prohibited by law. Any resemblance between the appearance of either intelligence or a sense of humor in any signature and the real thing may be purely coincidental)

As Valentine Michael Smith said "I am only an egg", (come to think of it, some CN'er uses that quote as a signature!)

Good list! My favorites are #23 and 42. But, some of the posters to this thread have quotes that did not make the list, that I like as well.

The year is just over half gone, so I thought I would advise all, that I am already working a new 50 Cloudy nights signature article, to be posted at the end of the year.
